SAP Integration and Middleware
Most of the pain in an SAP landscape isn't inside SAP. It's at the joins — between SAP and the 3PL, the EDI partner, the CRM, the maintenance system, the finance platform, the customer portal. Interfaces built for a go-live and never revisited, monitored by nobody, and understood by one person who has since left.
I design, build and repair those joins.
What I work with
Inbound and outbound message flows for sales orders, deliveries, despatch advice, invoices, ASNs and master data. Partner profile configuration, message type and process code setup, error handling and reprocessing procedures. Onboarding of new trading partners and third-party logistics providers.
IDoc and EDI
APIs and services
REST and SOAP interfaces between SAP and external platforms. Authentication, error handling, retry behaviour and rate limiting. Integration with CRM, service desk, project management and asset management systems.
SAP Integration Suite on BTP
Integration flow design and build on SAP Business Technology Platform, including Cloud Integration (formerly CPI). Connectivity, security artefacts, monitoring and alerting. Moving point-to-point interfaces onto a managed integration layer.
Legacy and database-level integration
Where a modern interface isn't available or isn't proportionate — web services, SQL-level integration and file-based exchange, done in a way that can still be supported.
How I approach it
An interface isn't finished when data moves. It's finished when someone other than the person who built it can tell, within minutes, that it has stopped — and knows what to do about it.
So every integration I deliver comes with error handling that surfaces failures to a person, a documented reprocessing procedure, and an interface register that says what runs, when, between what, and who owns it. It's unglamorous, and it's the difference between an integration estate and a pile of interfaces.
Typical engagements
- Onboarding a new 3PL or EDI trading partner end to end
- Replacing a manual re-keying process between SAP and a downstream system
- Reviewing an existing interface estate and producing a register, risk assessment and remediation plan
- Designing the target integration architecture for a move to Integration Suite
- Diagnosing an interface that fails intermittently and nobody has been able to pin down
If you've got an integration problem you'd like a second pair of eyes on, the first conversation is free.
